8 represents continuation, repetition, and cycles
This amazing picture of Alex Ovechkin with a sheep is quickly making its rounds on the interwebs, as things of such quality do.  Quovechkin, of course, feels compelled to jump on the bandwagon because we’re fiending for any Caps-related news that brings smiles to our faces.  And is it possible to look at this…   …and not smile?  Yeah, didn’t think so.  Let’s keep...

The excrutiating post-mortem
My heart is still heavy as I write this. Team Quovechkin was at the game and believing until the final second (well maybe until 4 seconds left) that the comeback was still at hand. I still can’t wrap my head around the second round brackets. And if I’m still in shock, I can only imagine what Ovechkin and the Caps are going through. Nevertheless, they are professionals and today they...

Keep Smiling, Ovie!
After last night’s gruesome defeat in game 7, everyone seems to have the answers to questions about what went wrong and criticism about everything Ovie did or didn’t do during the playoffs.  We admit we’re taking part in that, too (although most of our criticism falls elsewhere *ahemmikegreencough*…ANYway…), but for Quovechkin purposes, let’s let the wounds...

Soy Capitan! Soy Capitan!
Brace yourself…we’re feeling discursive.   It’s been quite a day.  Sandwiched between two high pressure days.  Game 6 was last night.  It should have been the game that ended the series, but by some evil miracle, Halak became a Jedi master (maybe Sith lord would be a better comparison) and impressively blocked all but 1 of the Caps’ booming 54 shots.  Game 7 is tomorrow...

i want to believe.
“Every year we make goalie feel unbelievable,” [Ovechkin] said. “Like, we play against Philly, Biron was good. [Henrik] Lundquist was good [for the Rangers]. This year we just make Halak feel good. But it’s always about this team, and we find a way to break it and win it. No panic. It’s just [one] game.” Break Halak. Win it. CSN via Sports Bog. Photo...

Cannibal Corpse killed Quovechkin →
NSFW!  We tried to post this on 4/23 but it brought the whole page down!  Let’s try this again… Since beloved death metal band (and hockey fans) Cannibal Corpse are playing in DC the same night as our beloved Capitals Capitan, how could we miss the opportunity to pay tribute to both?  Here is a video (click link above) of CC front man Corpsegrinder effusing his love for...

Ovie gets introspective on being down 3-1 in a...
And every time he says “Jesus” in a quote, it cracks me up. “When you are losing 3-1, you think, ‘Jesus, why did this happen to our team?’ We talked to the guys and they didn’t want to go on vacation, or go home. They wanted to play. This is a situation where everybody has to be ready for a fight.” Via NHL.com.

Let's push some more and see what happens....
Because Ovie and the Caps are FOCUSED on the playoffs (and so is Team Quovechkin), we have another serious, playoff-mode quote. Ovie and Semin are good buddies, of course, but with Sasha struggling to get the puck in the net, it’s a good friend’s duty to give him a lift (or call him out). Thus we have Ovie weighing in on Sasha Semin’s struggles: “Well, you can say some...

8 is great
Once again, Ovie has shown himself to be a class act.  After his 2nd goal of the night, a tie breaker in the 3rd period, Alexander the Great left his celebratory scrum and took the time to skate to the other end of the ice to show his gratitude to Varlamov for the young ‘un’s stellar performance throughout the game.  When asked later what he said to Varly, he responded, “It was...

Best quote of the playoffs (thus far).
This Mike Knuble quote on Ovie before game 2 has our vote (and Steinberg’s) for the best quote of the playoffs thus far.  “He doesn’t have to go home and do soul searching or sacrifice a goat. He’s going to come back. He’s one of the best players in the world. Those guys show up and play hard. They are the best because they bring it every night, because they try...

“Strategy? Just destroy people?” [Ovechkin] said with a laugh. “No,...”
– This quote is also all over the place, but the Sports Bog has a great picture breakdown of Ovechkin hits to start game 2 – Ovechkin discussing his physical start to game 2.

Round 'em up!
So, Team Quovechkin fell behind in our duty to keep up regular posts because the playoffs are just so good (and because today is the first day of the playoffs that I actually find myself somewhat calm and composed). Then I had this fantastic idea that we would watch the various post-game and pre-game videos to pull a quote round up – “the best of the playoffs (thus far).” But that’s a darn lot...

Ovechkin compares his golf skills to Tiger and...
“Ovechkin screams out, ‘Go through fockink light! See what I mean!  In Russia, yellow light means ‘fock it’!  America too much rules. See cop, slow down. In America, you want to do something, you have to think. In Russia, just do it.” From January 2009 Maxim article, “Alexander the Great.”

Nice deflection, Ovie
From December 4, 2009 interview with Sovetskiy Sport, translated into English by RussianHockeyFans.com: SS: It seems that the “caveman” reputation pleases you. OV:  I’m a “caveman” because I don’t care what others think of me. I don’t give a damn. SS: If you didn’t give a damn you wouldn’t play the way you do. OV: And maybe the only...

"Why I want to talk about who's best, who's not?"
Via the Sports Bog, Ovechkin reminds a certain Montreal Canadien that the game is played on the ice, not on the stats sheet. “I’m not gonna say nothing,” Alex Ovechkin replied. “If someone want to say something, they just can say it. We’ll see….How I said, why I [Ed. note: maybe should be “we don’t”?] want to talk about who’s best,...

– I can’t find the original source for this, but enough people on the interwebs have quoted it that it must be legit…and it’s too good to not use!  Apologies if the wording is not exact.  Thanks to Betsy for the suggestion!

Speaking of quotes about Ovie....
“I do, I love the kid. He’s a great kid, and I’ve watched him grow up. And the good news, there’s a double bottom line to Alex Ovechkin, right? He’s a brother from another planet, he’s a once in a generation player, and he’s like this really nice kid.” — Ted Leonsis speaking to Steinberg A brother from another planet? Maybe Ovie really...

Quotes ABOUT Ovie can be just as good...
“You can hear him through the whole dressing room, through the facility, all day, just yelling,” Shaone Morrisonn said. “I don’t know what he’s yelling, but he’s yelling.” (from Dan Steinberg’s article in the Washington Post on April 11, 2010)

"NFG - it's no F good." (1:29)  →
From a clip of Brooks Laich talking about sticks on the ESPN web site.  Viewers were fortunate enough to be graced with a cameo by a shirtless #8 and some viewers, who shall remain nameless, may have watched that video, oh, a couple dozen times…but only because of their deep interest in flex and whip.  (click on link - video couldn’t be embedded)
